    Has anyone tested the PS3 app out there? If so, how well does it work, and on what BOINC version are you running it?

    I have the old PS3Grid/GPUGrid BOINC version (which also works on Yoyo) which breaks up a single WU to run on the 6 SPEs. There is also the PrimeGrid BOINC version, which runs six WUs at a time, one on each of the SPEs. Anyone have a clue as to which version would be best?

    Or is there a newer BOINC version compiled for the PS3 that I am unaware of?

        I got around to circling back to this issue, and I'm seeing some weird things.

        I've got a PS3 running YDL6.1, and the credits being granted do not seem right. The WUs are running for over five minutes (5:10 to 5:30), which shows up accurately under the Run Time, but credits are being granted based on CPU time, which is grossly underestimated on a PS3.

        In that WU, I claimed (and was granted) 0.02 credits for a WU that crunched for over 5 minutes. Being optimistic, 12 WUs/hr * 24 hrs/day * 0.02 credits/WU = 5.76 credits/day. In contrast, Yoyo gets about 1500 credits/day, PrimeGrid got 3500 credits/day, and PS3Grid got 5000 credits/day.

        I would like to use my PS3s to crunch this project, but I'd prefer to leave them off for fewer than 6 credits per day...

          FWIW, all projects that have PS3 apps have had to create custom credit awarding methods. BOINC does not know how to deal with their CPU structure. Similar problem with GPUs.

          So I suggest that the admin look at the credits awarded for a typical WU run by a CPU, and make that fixed credits for any task returned by a PS3. Otherwise the PS3 volunteer is going to quit participating.

            To drive this point home: Yoyo = 1500 credits/day. Primaboinca = 6 credits/day. For 250x the credit, I'm going to stick with Yoyo. I would LOVE to crunch Primaboinca on the PS3, but can't justify keeping the PS3s on for 6 credits/day.

            yoyo (from Rechenkraft.net - sp?) and the folks at PrimeGrid (specifically, the old AP26 project), may be able to offer advice on a PS3 BOINC app. Both are pretty active in the BOINC community and good people. ;-)

            The app here works well; it's just the granted credits that are the problem...

                            Hi, my PS3 was running 6 Wu's @ a time then for some reason dropped to only 3 Wu's @ a time although they seem to be running twice as fast now running only 3. Hard to tell since I can't run 6 now ...
